Rustproofing and Paint Protection, Do you need it?
Hell no!
Car dealers and your know it all friends might tell you that rustproofing and paint protection are
necessary when buying a car. Well I got news for you! These 2 optional services are really not
necessary and just serve to increase the income generated by the car dealers or the aftermarket
product industry.
Rustproofing : Newer or modern vehicles are already built to be rust resistant and unless you
live in a particularly harsh environment, the extra rust proofing wont really have any effect. This
to my mind is one of the biggest scams that the auto industry tries to sell to their customers. If
you have an older vehicle, lets say something more than 15 years old, then rust proofing might
be something you want to look at, but otherwise, stay clear of this cash trap.
Paint Protection : All this does is give your car a good coat of wax that last longer than most
waxings and at several times the cost. The paint on your vehicle is already designed to last, so
a good regular washing is all it needs and a wax now and then. Save your money for a few years
down the line and get another paint job instead as even if you have paint protection done you will
still need to have it redone every couple of years.
Bottom line, research before you buy in to these so called extras. Happy New Year, and good motoring!

Wow….how misinformed are you guys
New cars do come with rust warranties you’re correct, but you’re not telling readers these warranties, for the most part, cover rust from manufacturers defects and not from general use. After market products such as Vital Protection Systems form a barrier between the vehicles metal and environment and prevent the onset of rust.
As for paint & fabric protection products, same as above; you’re only providing readers with an extract of the picture to present a distorted picture.
Companies such as Vital have been in business for 30+ years not because they scam customers, but because they provide valuable products to consumers who, as you mentioned, live in harsh conditions (Toronto, Canada).

Hi, I actually agree with this article. If you think about it, unless you want to keep the car for twenty plus years do you really need to plunk down several thousand pesos/dollars on rustproofing? and for paint protection, after about 10 years, just get a new paint job, it would be better than getting paint protection every couple years.
if I lived near the sea where salt water can damage your vehicle then maybe Id reconsider
